About Scout
What is Scout?
Scout is Pawsd's AI dog wellness advisor. Scout asks targeted questions about your dog — their anxiety triggers, when symptoms happen, how severe they are — then matches your dog's pattern to a calming approach backed by veterinary research.
Scout is powered by Claude, Anthropic's AI model. Every conversation is private and used only to generate your dog's plan.
Is Scout a veterinarian?
No. Scout is an AI tool, not a licensed veterinarian or certified animal behaviorist. Scout's recommendations are based on published research and product fit for common anxiety patterns — not a medical evaluation of your specific dog.
How does Scout decide what to recommend?
Scout identifies your dog's primary anxiety pattern — separation stress, noise sensitivity, generalized anxiety, social anxiety — and matches it to products with documented evidence for that specific pattern. The matching logic considers:
- Anxiety type and severity
- Speed of onset needed (fast-acting vs. daily supplement)
- Whether CBD or non-CBD options are preferred
- What the owner has already tried
Products labeled Vet recommended are those explicitly cited in peer-reviewed veterinary literature for the anxiety type they're matched to. Citations are listed on each product page.
Can Scout be wrong?
Yes. Scout can misidentify an anxiety pattern, and what works for one dog may not work for another — individual biology, training history, and home environment all affect outcomes.
If a product isn't helping after 4–6 weeks of consistent use, retake the consult. Scout will ask what you've tried and refine the recommendation based on your feedback. The plan is meant to evolve.
Why doesn't Scout just recommend seeing a vet?
For dogs with mild to moderate anxiety patterns, owner-managed interventions — supplements, environmental changes, training techniques — are often the appropriate first step. A vet visit adds time, cost, and often results in the same evidence-based recommendations Scout surfaces.
Scout always flags when a pattern suggests a veterinary behaviorist is warranted. Severe, worsening, or medically complex cases get that guidance explicitly.
Products & Recommendations
Why these products and not others?
Pawsd's product list was built from veterinary literature, professional trainer recommendations, and owner-reported outcomes. Every product on the list has a documented mechanism of action for anxiety — alpha-casozepine, L-theanine, CBD, pheromones, compression. We don't include products based on marketing claims alone.
How do affiliate links work?
When you click a product link and buy it, Pawsd may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how Pawsd generates revenue while offering the Scout consult for free.
Commission rates vary — Amazon pays around 3%, specialty pet retailers like HolistaPet and Innovet pay higher rates. When two products are an equally good clinical fit, we route to the higher-commission option. We disclose this honestly rather than pretending commission plays no role in how products are surfaced.
Are these supplements safe?
All supplements on Pawsd's list are from manufacturers who follow NASC (National Animal Supplement Council) quality guidelines or equivalent. That said:
- Supplements can interact with prescription medications. If your dog is on any medication, check with your vet first.
- CBD products are not appropriate for dogs on phenobarbital, potassium bromide, or certain other medications due to liver enzyme interactions.
- Always introduce new supplements gradually and watch for any unusual reactions in the first week.
What if a product doesn't work?
Affiliate purchases are subject to the retailer's return policy — Amazon, HolistaPet, Innovet, and most specialty pet retailers offer satisfaction guarantees. Contact the retailer directly for returns.
If the product you tried didn't help, retake the consult. Scout's first question will be what you've already tried, and the new plan will route around it.
What does "Featured" mean?
Featured products are tier-1 recommendations — the best combination of clinical evidence, owner outcomes, and product quality for the anxiety type they're matched to. Think of them as Scout's first pick before considering personal preferences or prior product history.
Your Plan
How do I save my plan permanently?
Sign in with your email on the plan page. We'll send a magic link — no password needed. Once signed in, your plan is saved to your Pawsd account and accessible from any device at your dashboard.
My plan disappeared. What happened?
Pawsd saves your active consult session in your browser (localStorage). The plan disappears if you:
- Cleared your browser data or cookies
- Switched to a different device or browser
- Used a private/incognito window
If you were signed in: Your plan is still saved — check your dashboard.
If you were not signed in: The plan was only in your browser. You can retake the consult — it takes about 2–3 minutes and Scout will generate a fresh plan.
Can I share my plan with my vet?
Yes. Every saved plan has a permanent URL (e.g., pawsd.ai/plan/abc123) that you can share directly. Your vet will see the same plan you see — the anxiety pattern identified, the products recommended, and the reasoning behind each one.
This is intentional. Pawsd is designed to support the conversation with your vet, not replace it.
How do I retake the consult?
Go to /consult and start a new conversation. Scout won't repeat the same questions — it'll ask what's changed or what you've already tried. Each consult generates a new plan, and previous plans remain saved in your dashboard.
Account & Login
How does login work?
Pawsd uses passwordless magic links. Enter your email and we 'll send you a sign-in link. Click it within 10 minutes to sign in. No password is ever set or stored.
I didn't get the magic link email.
A few things to check, in order:
- Check your spam or junk folder — transactional emails often land there.
- Make sure you're using the same email address you signed up with.
- Wait 2–3 minutes and check again — delivery can sometimes be delayed.
- Request a new link from the sign-in page.
If none of that works, email support@pawsd.ai and we'll sort it out.
The magic link says it expired.
Magic links expire after 10 minutes for security. Go back to the sign-in page and request a new one. The new link will arrive in under a minute in most cases.
How do I clear my browser session data?
Go to Settings → "Local Data" → "Clear local session data." This removes the browser-stored session (the pawsd_sessions key). It does not affect your account or any plans saved to Pawsd.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → "Danger Zone" → "Delete account." This permanently removes your account, all saved plans, journal entries, and email subscription. This action cannot be undone.
Privacy & Data
What does Pawsd store?
Browser only (local)
Your current consult session — the dog name, Scout conversation, and any in-progress plan. This stays on your device and is never sent to Pawsd servers.
Pawsd servers
Saved plans, email address, and consult history — but only if you're signed in. Stored in Google Cloud Firestore in the US. Retained for 12+ months on active accounts, deleted within 90 days of account deletion.
What we don't store
IP addresses. Full browser history. Credit card numbers (we don't sell directly — purchases happen on Amazon, HolistaPet, or Innovet). Cookies beyond what's needed for authentication.
Is my conversation with Scout private?
Conversations with Scout are processed by Anthropic's Claude API to generate responses. We store a conversation summary (not the full transcript) for plan generation and quality review. Conversation data is not shared with third parties, advertisers, or affiliate partners.
See our full Privacy Policy for Anthropic's API data practices and our full data retention schedule.
Does Pawsd track me across the internet?
Pawsd uses Google Analytics (cookieless mode) and conversion pixels for Meta and TikTok ads — these fire when you complete specific actions like starting a consult, not continuously. We don't use third-party tracking cookies or cross-site tracking networks.
How do I request a copy of my data?
Email support@pawsd.ai with "Data Request" in the subject line. We'll send you a copy within 30 days.
